It's Diana's Turn
by Lady_Gallatea_Ravenclaw

Diana woke up with a fuzzy head and a sore throat. It had been three days since she had taken Jake home when he had gotten sick.

She had stayed with him until his fever had broken the next day. Once she was sure that he was settled, and that he didn't need anything else, she left and went home.

Since the culture that they had prepared at the office needed at least a week and a half to grow, Diana and Jake had a vacation until it finished.

Diana sat up and leaned against the headboard of her bed with a groan. She must be catching Jake's cold. God knows she was exposed to the germs enough times while she was taking care of him.

The poor guy would feel awful. Usually, she didn't get sick after she took care of him, but this time is an exception.

The phone rang and Diana picked it up as she settled down in her covers again. She wanted to sleep a little more before getting up.

"Hello?" Diana asked in a croaky voice.

"Diana? Are you feeling all right?" asked Jake. He always got over his colds relatively quickly, and once his fever was gone, it seemed as if it had disappeared.

"Not really, why?" asked Diana miserably.

"Oh, I am so sorry Diana. I must have given you my cold!" Jake cried.

"Don't worry about it Jake. I'll be fine. Just don't expect me to go anywhere for the next few days, `kay? Look, I'm a bit tired, so I'm going to take a nap right now. Call me in another hour or two," Diana mumbled tiredly.

"No problem. Look, if you need anything, just call. I'm more than happy to help. Bye and sleep well," said Jake sincerely.

"Thanks Jake, bye," said Diana before she hung up the phone.

She gave a big sigh before settling into her pillows and falling asleep.

Diana blearily opened her eyes and sat up in bed. Her nose was tickling and itching, ready to explode in a messy fit of sneezes. She blindly felt around on her bed stand for the tissues and grabbed a handful just in time.

"Hah-CHOO! Iiii-ITCHHEEEW! Hii-ITCHHEEW! Huh-CHOO!" Diana blew her nose until it was clear.

She balled up the tissue and threw it over the end of her bed with a sigh. She had been sneezing and coughing since she had gotten sick, and frankly, she was sick of it.

She was cold and achy, her throat was on fire, she had a monster of a headache, she couldn't breathe through her nose, and the damn thing kept running, tickling, and stuffing up.

Diana coughed in misery and sipped a glass of water. She shivered and burrowed herself under the covers once again. She had taken Tylenol and some Dimetapp earlier, but they hadn't kicked in yet. She hoped they would soon so she could sleep off her fever.

She grabbed a tissue and scrubbed at her sore nose, wincing at the pain that caused.

Diana was about to drift off again, when the phone rang.

"Hello?" Diana croaked, her voice even worse than the day before.

"Diana? It's Jake. Oh god, you sound terrible," said Jake sadly over the phone.

"I feel derrible, for whad id's worth," Diana replied tiredly.

"Do you want me to come over? I can bring some hot chicken soup," suggested Jake hopefully. He didn't like the idea of his best friend being sick in bed with no one there for her.

"Daks, dhad would be gread. I jud don'd wad do be ad idcodvediedce," said Diana gratefully. After spending a day sleeping and sneezing, one just wants some company and food.

"You will never be an inconvenience. Do you need anything else?" asked Jake.

"Dobe. Jud cobady. Daks Jake. If I ab asleeb whed you ged here, jud walk righd id," said Diana sleepily. It seems that the medicine was kicking in.

"Sure, no problem. I'll see you in a little bit. Bye Diana. Feel better," said Jake comfortingly.

"Bye, daks," she said. Diana hung up the phone and burrowed further into her bed. It would be best to get some sleep before Jake arrived with the food.

Diana closed her eyes and fell asleep.

Jake knocked on Diana's apartment door, wondering if she was awake.

When he didn't hear anything, he quietly opened the door and walked in.

He looked around and saw Diana's neat and clean apartment in front of him. The only evidence he could see of her illness were the dirty dishes in her sink and the juice and fizzy drink cartons left on the counter.

Jake put them in the fridge and left the pot of chicken soup he had made for her on the stove.

He then walked to her bedroom and cautiously peered in. When he decided that she was fully clothed, he walked in, and saw the sorry sight that was his best friend.

Diana's bed was covered in blankets in quilts, and the floor around it was covered in used tissues. Her nightstand was covered in tissue boxes, water glasses, and medication.

Diana herself was pale with rosy cheeks and a bright red nose. She was sleeping soundly with her mouth opening and light snoring from her cold.

She looked so peaceful that Jake didn't want to wake her.

However, he did clean up all the tissues and put them in a waste bin. He threw away the empty tissue boxes and put the used water glasses in the kitchen sink. He put fresh water on her nightstand and organized the medication properly.

He arranged her blankets so they completely covered her and put a cool compress on her forehead.

He also heated up the chicken soup and put it in a bowl on a tray with some orange juice, a rose, and some dry toast. He also made some tea with honey for her throat and placed that on the tray as well. He then took the tray into her room and placed it on the nightstand so he could wake her up.

"Diana? Diana? Could you please wake up? I have some food for you," said Jake softly as he sat next to her on the bed.

Diana stirred, struggling to open her heavy eyelids and to focus her gaze on Jake.

"Jake? Whad are you doig here?" she asked thickly. Her head felt very fuzzy and light, yet too heavy to lift. She wondered why it was so hard to think.

"I brought some food for you. Your fever's pretty high. Do you mind if I take your temperature? Did you take some Tylenol or Advil? How are you feeling?" asked Jake worriedly.

"I dod feel good Jake!" Diana whined and she buried her face into his chest as she wrapped her arms around him. She felt like bursting into tears at any moment. "By head hurds, ad I cad breade wedll, ad id hurds do dink, ad I jud wad do feel bedder."

"Awww...." Jake cooed and comforted as he wrapped his arms around her, "There, there, you'll feel better soon. Come on; let's just take your temperature, okay? Then you can drink some soup and tea before some more sleep. It'll be fine Diana."

Jake calmly settled the ailing woman against some pillows in a half leaning- half sitting position. He then took her temperature and helped her drink some soup and tea. She even nibbled on the toast a little.

After that, he settled her back down for some sleep and kept cool cloths on her forehead. He rubbed her back when she whimpered from feverish dreams and he sat with her, keeping her as cool as possible until her fever broke.

She slept for some time after it broke and stirred as it neared 3:00 in the morning.

"Jake? Whad habbed?" she asked, confused as to why she felt so sweaty, hot, and tired.

"Your fever rose for a few hours and it finally broke 3 or 4 hours ago. You've been sleeping since then," Jake informed her, relieved that she had finally woken up.

"Cad I hab sobe wadder, blead?" Diana asked in her hoarse and congested voice.

"Sure, here you go," Jake said as he helped her sit up and sip the water. "You gave me a fright for some time there. How are you feeling now?"

"Bedder. Dak you for daking care ob be," she said gratefully.

"You did the same for me," Jake smiled in acceptance.

"Jake, ca-a-a-d you ha-a-a-d be th-e-e ti-ii-issues? Huh-CHOO! ACHOO! Hah-CHOO! Hiii-ITCHEEWW! ITCHEEW! HAHCHOO! ... Daks," said Diana as Jake pressed tissues to her nose to muffle her sneezes.

Diana grabbed two more tissues and blew her nose until she felt clearer and could speak easier.

"Thanks agaid. I really abbreciade it," she said.

"No problem Di. What are best friends for?" he said.

Diana smiled weakly and settled down to eat his wonderful soup and watch TV with him.

'Best friends,' Diana thought as she watched him laugh at something the cartoon said. 'I wish we could be more.'

After writing my first Jake and Diana fic for the General Challenge Week 72, I decided to write more on Jake and Diana. Here is the second installment of the chronicles (hehehe) called, "It's Diana's Turn". This takes place after "Jake and Diana" and doesn't really have much of a plot. It's just a whole lot of fluff between the two characters. Sorry there isn't much sneezing, there is just a lot of TLC. Enjoy!
