Don't Feel So Good
a Batman story
by Jayson
The buzzing of the alarm clock next to him was the next thing he'd heard after falling asleep after a less than quiet night in Gotham. "Ugh, shut up," he groaned rolling over pushing the off button. Pulling off the covers and swinging his legs over the side of the bed, Tim Drake went to scoot off the side of the bed, put on foot on the floor and promptly toppled over the edge of the bed. "What the hell?" he thought trying to realize what had happened.
"Way to go, Genius," Dick Grayson chuckled, leaning against the doorway in his usual calm pose.
"Shut up." Tim's voice was cool and calm.
"Oh, don't be so angry. I was just messing with you, ya big brat," Dick chuckled again offering Tim a hand up.
Grabbing hold, Tim tried to raise himself, but quickly finding himself falling towards the floor again as his eyes couldn't tell him the ceiling from the walls as the room did a complete circle around him. Thankful for Dick's strong arms that helped him stay vertical.
"Woah, hold on, trust me the floor isn't as soft as you seem to think it is," setting his 'little brother' on the bed, he looked into the unfocusing eyes,"you ok?"
"Dizzy," was all Tim could manage out as the room spun once again.
"Yeah, I see that,"Dick laid a gentle hand on Tim's forehead, "and feverish. Congrats Boy Wonder, you're sick."
"What?! I can't be tonight's prom, Stephanie will think I'm lying and that I don't want to go with her. I can't be sick," Tim tried to push himself up, but realized it was no good," ugh, I can't be sick, but I am."
"Let me go get Alfred and see what he wants to do, I'll be right back," and with that Dick left the room.
~*~several minutes later~*~
"...yeah, almost passed out cold and he's got a fever," Dick was saying when him and Alfred walked into Tim's room.
"Master Timothy, how are you feeling?" Alfred voice was lined with concern.
Tim wasn't sure what was worse, him actually feeling bad enough that he didn't want to move ever again or the irritable tickle that was quickly burning in his nose that was going to force him to move when he sneezed.
Not receiving an answer, Alfred reached forward pushing some of Tim's matted hair off of his sweat-beaded forehead. "Master Richard, do me a favor and bring me a bowl with some cool water and a cloth in it, please?"
"Sure thing, Alfred." Hurrying quickly back, Dick brought the bowl and cloth and set it on the nightstand next to Tim's bed.
Wringing out, the cloth and lying it on Tim's forehead, Alfred waited for Tim to snap out of his 'dazed-out' state.
The coolness of the cloth on his forehead brought Tim out of all concentration of trying to hold off the sneezes that had been building. Despretate to hold them back Tim pushed the tip of his tongue to the roof of his mouth, knowing the embarrassment that would flow if he sneezed in front of Alfred or Dick.
Seeing Tim's predicament, Alfred quickly handed Tim a handful of tissues and pushed his hand to his nose, just as Tim could hold back no longer. iihh...hushhh,HUH-SHHH,AHHHH...ahehhh-ehhshuhhhh. Blowing his nose with what little strength he had left, Tim suddenly remembered his audience he had. There was little he could do about it now though, quickly turning and grabbing another handful of tissues he left go of three more wet sneezes iihhhhHUHSHHH,ehhshhuhh...aahhh..ahhhhh...ahhhshiuhhh.
Not sure what to say, Tim just blew his nose, dreading to look up. "Wow, bless you!" Dick said.
"That is quite the understandment, Master Richard, but, yes, bless you, Master Timothy."
"Um, thanks," Tim said kind of scrubbing at his nose with the tissues he had just used. Feeling horribly exhausted by the amount of energy he had just used, Tim fell back against his pillows. "Alfred, I don't feel so good," Tim said his eyes filling with small unspoken tears.
Knowing Tim was probably embarrassed by all the comotion that had just gone on, Alfred picked up the wet cloth from where it had fallen on the covers, dipped it back in the bowl of water and wiped down Tim's face. "I know Master Timothy, just lie back and get some rest."
Not my characters...blah blah blah.
