I Want To Be With You
a Dirty Dancing story
by Hermione Eveningfall

When the heavy rain finally ceased, Baby opened her green eyes. It was very late, at least midnight, but the seventeen year old girl was feeling a bit restless. She sat up, dangling her long, slender legs over the side of the bed and shivered a bit as a small breeze ruffled her curly hair. The only sounds that could be heard were crickets and her younger sister Lisa's soft snores.

At last, Baby could not take it anymore. She stood, padding over to the closet and changed out of her nightgown and into a short, pink sundress. Once she slipped on her white sandals, she spritzed herself with her favorite rose scented perfume and left eh cabin. She had to see Johnny. Though they spent most of the day together practicing for the upcoming performance at the hotel, she felt unusually lonely without him.

Sighing with content, Baby gazed up at the ink black sky, and smiled as the moon slowly drifted through the clouds. As she grew closer towards the dance instructor's cabin, she was a bit surprised to find the light on in the living room. Her heart pounded as she made her way to the front door, and she rapped gently.

When it opened, Johnny appeared, shirtless and wearing a pair of tight black sweatpants. He leaned against the door frame, smirking a little, and ruffling his light brown hair. "Hey," he greeted, letting her come inside and shut the door after her. "Wasn't expecting you so late." He wrapped his muscular arms around her small, wirey frame. Baby shuddered with pleasure, resting her head against his chest.

"I couldn't sleep." She admitted, as they went to sit down on the couch. He let her lay across his lap, massaging her feet once she removed her sandals.

"I'll have to make sure you get back to your parents before they wake up," he whispered, bending over to kiss her hair. She nodded, snuggling a bit closer. When she was with him, she felt as though a great void in hear heart had finally been filled. She felt like she could do anything, could be anything when with him. He loved and respected her, though at first he'd been hesitant to let her get to know him.

"How come you're up so late, Johnny?" Baby rolled over on her back, folding her arms behind her head. He shrugged, reaching a hand up to rub his suddenly watery eyes.

"Same reasons. You smell nice, Baby. What scent is that?" he wriggled his nose, which was starting to itch. She sat up again, gazing into his eyes lovingly, and touched his cheek.

"Rose." She looked down at her hands, blushing a little.

"I like it," he complimented, sniffling. Baby heard this, and frowned.

"Are you all right?" she asked. "If it's bothering you, I can go and wash it off."

He shook his head, but he couldn't deny the tickle any longer. "Huh-ESHHHH! Heh USHHHH!" he sneezed loudly, snapping forward, nearly knocking Baby off of the couch. She jumped with a surprised yelp, covering her heart with her hand. After the moment of shock had worn off, she laughed, rubbing his back.

"Bless you!"

"Thank...eh...ESHHHHH! Huh-ESHHHHH! Excuse me...thank you." He blinked, reaching over to the nightstand to fetch a tissue from the box. He barely grabbed one before he started sneezing again, hardly able to breath between each one. Baby immediately hopped off of the couch, moving as far away as she could from him.

"I'm so sorry!" she gasped.

He looked at her, his expression sympathetic, and held up his hand as if to tell her in a gesture that it was fine. "No, I'm... huh-ETSHHHH! ATSHHHH! HeTSHHHH! I'm...ESHHHHH!"

"I have to wash this off," Baby insisted. "I don't want you hurting yourself over it. Where is your bathroom...upstairs?"

He nodded, clearing his throat once the sneezes died down, due to the fact that she'd moved away from him. She quickly dashed up the wooden steps, feeling terrible that instead of trying to sweep Johnny off of his feet, she'd only set off his allergies. When she found the bathroom, Baby undressed, hopping into the shower. After washing as much of the perfume off as she could with plain soap, she dried, redressed and appeared at the rail. Johnny wasn't sneezing nearly as rapidly now, though his nose was red and his eyes were bloodshot. When she reached the living room, she hesistated to move closer.

"I'm so sorry," she apologized again. "I didn't know you were allergic to roses."

Johnny didn't look angry in the least, and encouraged her to come to him. "You cad cobe over," he croaked stuffily. "You wouldn't have known about this. It's embarassig more than adything else."

Baby sat down on the couch beside him, and touched his shoulder. "Are you sure you're all right? You look awful. Here." She fetched a few more tissues, grimacing as he blew his nose.

"I'm fine, thanks. Huh...huh...ETSHHHH! ESHHHHH!" he covered his mouth with his hand, cringing. "Here, lay back down, Baby. You were comfortable before."

She shook her head, snapping her fingers, and pointed to her own lap. "No, it's your turn. He lowered the tissues, raising an eyebrow, and then decided to take her up on her offer.

"Thank you," he whispered, sniffling as she stroked his hair. "So how are you feeling about your dance progress? I think you're getting pretty good." He kissed the tip of her knee.

"I don't know. I guess I'm doing all right. I'm so nervous, though."

He lifted his head, smoothing her cheek, and reaching up to kiss her lips. "You are going to be fine. You definitely have the spirit. Here." He got off of the couch, put the tissues in his pocket, and held out his hands for her. She cocked her head to the side, finally agreeing to take them. He led her over to the record player, and placed the needle on "Be my Baby". He placed his hands on either side of her waist, straightening her a bit.

"Mmmm." Baby wrapped her arms around his neck, pressing her body as close as she could to his own.

"Mmmm back to you," he whispered into her ear, making her laugh. "Whatever happened to our dance space?" he sniffed, his face crinkling for a moment.

"Going to sneeze again?" Baby asked.

"Eh...eh...HetUSHHHHH!"

"Bless you." She stroked his nose, before swaying with him to the music, moving her hips back and forth. He twirled her slowly, bringing her to him so that her back was against his chest, his arms crossed over her stomach. She could feel his breath against her neck, an closed her eyes. She hardly opened them at all as Johnny led her through the steps, feeling as though she were floating through the air. Dancing had become almost apart of her since she began practicing with Johnny.

"Heh-USHHHH! ESHHHUH!"

Baby laughed as Johnny let go of her, burrying several sneezes in the crook of his arm. "Bless you."

He glanced at the clock on the wall, sniffling. "Baby, you should get back home and go to bed. It's nearly two. And I'm worn out."

Baby wrapped her arms around his neck, kissing him. "Sneezing does that to you. I just-don't know if I'll be able to go to sleep unless I'm with you."

He rested a cheek against her hair, blowing out his breath. "All right. Then come upstairs with me. But first thing in the morning I'm bringing you back. Understand?" he held a finger in her direction, and she nodded. "Good. Come on, Baby." He led her up the stairs, flipping the light switch so the room dissolved in darkness.
