Evil Cold
a Trigun story
by Aimee

Setting aside the fifth and last newspaper, unable to find any recent activity of the 60 Billion double dollar man, Midvalley sighed and picked up his cup of coffee. The days were getting longer and harder, trying to find Vash the Stampede, and he felt like it was becoming more and more useless. He had figured that Legato Bluesummers, the leader of the Gung-Ho-Guns, could have picked up on Vash right away and they wouldn't have to worry about going through local newspapers. This wasn't the case, it seemed. For the past few days, Legato had been irritable and once complained of a headache saying he was lossing control of his powers.

Midvalley couldn't blame him, Vash wiped out half the gang and Knives was close to having his body fully healed, putting a lot of pressure on the blue haired man. So, to help, Midvalley sent out what remaining members they did have for newspapers and to go around towns listening for any rumors. So far they all came up empty handed.

This morning was the same as the others, all leading to dead ends. After the fifth moon incident, Vash the Stampede seemed to disappear off the face of the earth. Hell, Midvalley thought, going to the hotel's coffee maker and stirring up a fresh pot, he isn't even human. He probably could have dropped off the entire planet. Lifting his eyes to the clock that was hanging in the kitchen area, he noted the time was heading from morning until afternoon.

Making a confused mutter in his throat, he turned to the hallways which lead to the rooms for he and Legato. The hotel was quite elaborate, crystal chandeliers hanging in all the rooms. King-sized beds in all the bedrooms, large bathrooms. All around a five-star place. Or so the best they could find in the desert-ridden town. The thing that made Midvalley uncomfortable was that Legato was still in his room, or somewhere else but there. Usually he was up much earlier than Midvalley, yet the dark-haired saxophone player had been awake for hours.

Just as he was mulling it over in his head wether to check on Legato, the sound of footsteps jerked his head up, looking into the doorway once more. The sight that slipped from the corner almost made Midvalley fall out of his chair in pure shock.

Legato's naturally shaggy hair was sticking up in about a thousand places, it didn't even look like he bothered to brush it that morning. His regular outfit was switched for a long blue long-sleeved shirt and matching cotton pants.

"L...Legato-sama?" Midvalley looked to the blue-haired male, mouth open in shock. He had never seen Legato as anything but dangerous, calculating, and evil. But this site was none of the above. Something was terribly off, and Midvalley was a bit worried. "Are you alright?"

Legato didn't bother with the other man in the room, going for the coffee pot and, without waiting for it to stop, pulled the pot out from the machine and poured himself a cup. "Have you heard anything today?" Legato's voice was calm, a little worn with what Midvalley assumed was sleep.

"No. I just finished checking the papers." Midvalley placed his hands on the breakfast bar that separated the kitchen from the living room. "How are your powers doing?"

"Worse." Legato muttered as he raised the cup to his lips and stopped. His other hand raised to his face, fingers placed under his nose and over his mouth. With a few light breaths of quick succession, his eyes tightly closed and with a muffled "hmmpppf!" his shoulders hunched forward almost violently.

"Legato?" Midvalley watched him with fascination and a slight frown. "Are you sick?"

"Don't be stupid!" Legato sniffed lightly, turning around to glare viciously at Midvalley. "I couldn't have caught such a stupid human virus!"

Midvalley smirked slightly. "You are still human, though." He pointed out, making Legato stand tall in defiance.

"Nevermind. Vash the Stampede couldn't have gone far, we have to start..." Placing his coffee cup down, Legato turned his back to grab a tissue from the box next to the sink and placed the soft fabric over his nose and mouth. His breathing hitched, closed eyes watering slightly before sneezing twice. "Haahh...httcchh! HUH-TCHH!" Groaning, he blew his nose into the tissue as gracefully as he could.

Midvalley bit back a laugh, starting to see that the person who could kill off the planet in a single wink, was just really a normal person after all. "I think you should go back to bed." He stated, taking a sip of his coffee, frowning when he realized there wasn't any left in the mug.

"I don't need your opinions." Legato threw the tissue into the garbage bin and ran his hand through the mop of messed hair. "Get the carriage ready and we'll head out into the next town after I get dressed."

As he started to walk away, Midvalley shot up and stopped him. "Wait! Don't you think that being sick could have messed with your powers?"

Legato's body froze, the words stopping him in his tracks. Sure he had been feeling horrible for the past few days, but be blew it off thinking it was stress. It wasn't until that morning that he realized he could have caught a cold. "I suppose." His answer was flat, not trying to sound too defeated.

"Come on. Go lay down, I'll get you some soup or something and get you better. What use are you if you're sick?" Midvalley's laugh was cut off by the golden glare from his boss. "Ah, well. Let's go." He walked around to the sink and snatched the full box of tissues and followed Legato into his room. Opening his window to get in some fresh air, Midvalley waited until Legato laid back down until setting the box next to him. "I'll be back with the soup and some asprin. I don't know if there is any cold medicine."

"Midvalley." Legato called out to the other man's back, his head lifting from the pillow. "Don't...don't mention this to anyone."

Midvalley sighed and placed a hand on his hip. "What for? You're sick. It happens." He shrugged and got another half-hearted glare. "Alright, alright." He waved his hand and began to walk out again. "I'll make you some tea while the soup cooks. Is that alright?"

"Yes, that's fi..fine...haa..." Legato reached over and grabbed two tissues out of the box and pressed them firmly to his face. "Haahhhhh... HTTCCHHH! Haahhtccchhh! HUH-Tcchh! Uhhhh.." Sniffing, he rubbed his nose against the tissue with a deep frown.

"Damn. You sure got bit with a bad one, huh?" Midvalley chuckled before he felt a sharp pain pierce down through his arm. "Aw, shit!" Rubbing his now aching muscle, he glared at Legato. "Looks like your powers aren't all gone, huh?"

"Enough to do that. Now, go get those things." Legato blew his nose into the tissue after shutting Midvalley up with a small smile. He didn't like that he had been week to a stupid sickness, but if he wanted to track down Vash, this was the only way. He couldn't argue with logic. As Midvalley left the room, Legato's head fell back heavily on the pillows with a sigh. One hand rested on his head, rubbing his burning sinuses. He hated being sick regardless. More so now since he had more important things to do than lay around in bed sneezing and sniffing.

Within minutes, Midvalley returned with a hot cup of tea. "I added some honey into it if your throat was bothering you..." He added, setting the cup on the night stand.

Legato muttered softly and went to reach for it. His hand changed directions quickly and picked up a tissue a little too slow. "Huuhh...HMP-TCHHH!" Catching the sneeze in the crook on his arm, he brought the tissue up to his nose and blew hard, which only aggravated his nose more than help. "HehhhTCCH! Ha...aa...Chhh! H'tcchht-Tcch!" Sniffing hard, he sighed heavily, the assault taking a lot out of him. He closed his eyes softly, his breathing unsteady and felt one more itching the tip of his nose. One of his hands moved up to rub his nose, trying to force it out that way. His eyes were really watering behind his closed lids now, the stuck sneeze making his sinuses burn.

Midvalley tapped Legato's shoulder gently to catch his attention. "Try looking out the window into the sun, that usually helps me get them out." With a small smile he pointed to the window.

With a quick glare, Legato took him up and looked out into the sky. The sun was high in the sky, as his golden gaze looked into the shining rays. All that did was making his eyes water more, drawing the sneeze further back. "What horrible advic...ce..." His breath caught his words, waving the tissue in front of his face. "Damnit!..." He placed the tissue over his nose and blew gently into it, knocking the feeling over the edge. "Huhh-uhhh...h'TSSHH! Huh-TCCSHHT!"

"Told you." Midvalley stood up strait and grinned. "I'll go finish your soup. Take it easy."

Legato sighed, sniffing twice before clearing his throat. "Midvalley." The dark-haired male turned on his heel and raised a brow. Legato let out another sigh, wanting to kick himself. "Thank you."

"Wow, you really are sick. And hey, no problem." He smiled softly and went back out into the kitchen, closing Legato's door behind him.

With a groan, Legato's head met the pillow once more, slipping on his side and curling in a ball under the covers. He rubbed his eyes with his balled up fist as his lips parted, his nose way too congested to breath through there. He decided that he would go on a killing spree for the hell of it when he was better to make his pride feel better as well. He smirked at the thought, sniffing hard. The action made his nose itch violently, reaching for a tissue and sneezing hard into it. "Haa-TSSHHT!" Rubbing under his nose he sniffed gently and closed his eyes letting the mental image of screaming people lull him to sleep until Midvalley returned.

I don't own Trigun or any of their characters.
This bunny bit me from a conversation me and a friend had on AIM about bishounen in jammies. Lol, I took it a step forward and made them sick and when I thought about Legato in such a situation I melted right away. Trying to keep him IC the best I can, since we don't see anything less than evil and cold-hearted, I figure I'd give it a shot. The time line is after the whole fifth moon incident. Midvalley and Legato seem to hang out a lot... Yes, this really is how evil villains spend their days. (Lmao!! ) But yeah, in one episode it shows them in this really nice place and I'm saying it was a hotel that probably took over, which is where they are at now.
